Like say my phone is turned off and dead somewhere and I call it, during that call can the cell phone company trace the call to where my cell phone might be?

About a year ago I read on the internet that in order for people to use cell phones on flying aircraft the airplanes would need to have a special antenna installed. This has not begun to happen yet.
So my question would be. If you can not get service on your cell phone while flying in an airplane. On 9/11 how did the people on board those doomed aicraft manage to use their cell phone to call out to their loved ones? I’m not counting the people who used the available at great cost aircraft phones just the ones who are said to have used their cell phones.
Just one of the holes in the vast 9/11 story.

Do they ask for a name and address? If a foreign tourist buys one and travels all over the country is the phone number based on where they purchase it or do they have a choice? I know that Verizon doesn’t use SIM cards. I was wondering if a verizon phone can be cracked to be able to use another service.

The model is motorola, there is a slot for a SIM card but it would not fit any of mine

However, I feel that in a public tourist attraction like the beach, a girl above the age of 10 should not go topless. I’ve yet to find any reviews that rate the daylight readability of cell phone displays. So, if there are such reviews, I’d like to know where to find them. Otherwise, I’d be happy knowing about similiar personal experiences that might help me find the right cell phone. I’m not looking for anything but basic features.
